New Sincerity Works

New Sincerity Works was formed in the summer of 2014 by Mike Tittel (ex-Loud Family, current drummer for Roger Klug Power Trio). The band was created in the image of what all bands should look like: themselves. The songs contain modest, heart on your sleeve themes mashed up with indie-pop, Americana and 1980's guitar-driven new wave, for a decidedly familiar, yet fresh presentation. The band has invited comparisons to a second distant cousin of Alex Chilton as well as Guided By Voices, Paul Westerberg, Phoenix and the Postal Service. As one fan from North Carolina said: "The music is like hearing your best friend sing. And who wouldn't want to hear that?

"I always wanted to be in this kind of band playing guitar and singing. But nobody ever asked me because I was a drummer. In fact I've played drums since I was eight years old, so I've been at the back of the stage all my life.  So I just made the band happen. Actually I made a record first, then decided to play it live with a band. That's how it started. The whole experience is stripped down and organic. The music won't shock anyone to the core. But it might make people who never sing, sing. And it will certainly make you feel welcome and that you aren't alone. And it is just fun to be in bands. Everyone knows that. And I'm beyond happy playing with these Cincinnatians " - Mike

The songs penned by Tittel feel urgent, pensive and stick in your ear like all good melodies should. The songs are simple enough to be familar and unique enough to provide something new for listeners. "I wrote many, many songs in my life. None of which I thought were very good. I have boxes of them recorded on various formats. I think in the end I hadn't had enough troubles yet to have anything worth writing about. But as life moved on I started to really depend on songwriting as a creative and emotional outlet. And that's when I think I started to have something worth saying. Or at least a reason to express myself."

Live, the ensemble provides the excitement one would expect from people that have played music all their lives. Bob Nyswonger on bass, from The Bears, psychodots and The Raisins brings a melodic sensibility to the rhythm section. Roger Klug the legendary guitarist adds angular polish while Greg Tudor and Mike Landis bring live firepower, the former working behind the desk in the studio to bring the album songs to life. New addition Lauren Bray rounds out vocal duties and plays synthesizers for the live show.

The name? Everything and nothing is in a name. Mike adds, "New sincerity is a legit post modern aversion to cynicism and skepticism. It's a movement of sorts. I thought this described my creative compass really well. I didn't really want to be in a players band, or a novelty band. I didn't want to write songs at someone's expense. In my mind the best songs are universal, true and descriptive of genuine emotion. So the name fit that idea of a project."

Guiding the band's aesthetic is generations of shared experience paying live and in the studio. All the members share a wide musical vocabulary, have toured extensively and dedicated all or good chunks of their lives to making music. But what brings them together is the same old drive to play great songs amongst great musicians. As Roger Klug (guitars) has said, "This band is like summer camp. It's a great diversion from our normal routine to make honest music the way bands used to."
