Cougar Ace is a genre melting rock band duo with influences from country, blues and audio deforestation.
Fronted by singer, guitarist Joel Caithamer, Cougar Ace has been winning over fans and lonely drifters found at the finest dive musical establishments throughout the Midwest since 2009. Unable to maintain a healthy relationship with a bass player (“No it’s not you, it’s me, we should see other people.”) Cougar Ace continues as a powerful two-piece force.
“More” is the band’s follow up EP to the 2010 release, “Social Outliers.” “More” features the British pop influenced song, “Descent into Hell is Easy”. “All My Fault” a song about the special havoc unleashed when a squirrel catches fire and torches a trailer park. “More” is a passionate four song fling, leaving your ears pleased but ultimately leaving you wanting more.
Joel was born in Park Ridge, Illinois. He was brought up in a musical environment in which he dabbled in viola, piano and banjo before picking up the guitar. Influenced by too many musical styles to mention, he keeps LPs of John Lee Hooker, Link Wray, Free, Savoy Brown and AC / DC closest to the turntable. Joel’s sound is an organic overdriven approach reminiscent of the late 60’s / early 70’s. He relies heavily on open major chords, dynamics and a hybrid style of playing rhythm and lead simultaneously to fill in the duo’s sound.
Shawn Fry, the drummer, song-writer and spiritual leader of Cougar Ace grew up in Bay City, Michigan where he was musically influenced by the sounds of Peter Green Fleetwood Mac, Robert Earl Keen, the backing intensity of the Funk Brothers and Bob Seger. He received his first floor tom when he was five years old (no not a set, just one drum). On stage, Shawn is often spotted wearing a t-shirt from a college that has asked him to stop attending.
The band would love to interact with you on Facebook and our music can be found on Reverbnation. (http://www.reverbnation.com/cougarace).
Cougar Ace has not opened for anyone you have ever heard of. If they did, they wouldn’t mention it because this is their bio. Instead of playing fifteen minutes before a bunch of people who didn’t pay to see them, they stay true to their PBR roots and play three hour sets at chicken shacks, coffee shops and dive bars.
Cougar Ace is a straight-up, in your face, you better be having a good time because we only live once, hell yeah this is why you came out tonight, rock and roll experience.
Formed through various random encounters, The Exit Strategy came to fruition initially in the early Fall of 2016. Coming from multiple different walks of life and bringing a myriad of great influences, The Exit Strategy are a heart-on-the-sleeve, down to Earth American Rock and Roll band. The Exit Strategy hit hard with a triple guitar, "Wall of Sound" attack reminiscent of The Drive-By Truckers, The Hold Steady and The Gaslight Anthem and honest and thought-provoking lyrics as if, if the band are so lucky, from the minds of greats like Bruce Springsteen, Paul Westerberg and Craig Finn.
